The holiday season is upon us, and what better way to spread some Christmas cheer than by putting together a whimsical Grinch Charcuterie Board? This festive and creative spread will steal your guests’ hearts and bring a touch of Whoville magic to your holiday celebrations. In this blog post, we’ll guide you through creating a delectable Grinch charcuterie board that will undoubtedly steal the show at your holiday celebrations.

How to make your Grinch

There are no hard fast rules when creating your Grinch charcuterie board. In Dr. Seuss fashion unleash your imagination and who knows what you will create! Take the instructions as a guideline; masterpieces come in all shapes and sizes.

Head

For the Grinch Charcuterie Board, our star ingredient is our zesty cilantro serrano hummus, a delectable dip with a slight modification – it’s waterless. This adjustment ensures the dip maintains a thick consistency, crucial for shaping our whimsical Grinch character.

Begin by reserving three tablespoons of the hummus. Next, position the bulk of the dip at the center of your charcuterie board or decorative plate. Armed with a silicone spatula, deftly sculpt the hummus into the iconic Grinch head. Craft wider cheeks and a narrower forehead to capture the distinctive features of this beloved character.

This dip, devoid of water, offers the perfect texture, allowing the Grinch’s visage to stand out on your charcuterie board. With this flavorful base, your holiday spread is destined to be a festive hit.

Eyes

Create the Grinch’s eyes by slicing a yellow squash into a round shape and halving it. For pupils, cut wedges from two black olive slices. Assemble the eyes on the face, positioning the flat part of the squash semicircles inward and the wedged-out part of the olives toward the forehead. This meticulous arrangement adds a charming and detailed touch to the expressive gaze on your festive Grinch charcuterie board.

Nose

For the nose, remove the stem from a small piece of broccoli and place it just below the eyes on the Grinch’s face. The Grinch charcuterie board is now beginning to take shape!

Mouth + Chin

Mix the remaining hummus with charcoal powder to create a darker shade. Use a plastic or pastry bag to pipe the Grinch’s wide smile, philtrum, and chin onto the Grinch charcuterie board.

Trim

Complete the Grinch’s fur trim with cauliflower florets placed above the forehead and below the chin.

Eyebrows

Utilize small cilantro leaves, overlapping them to form two distinct brows. Carefully position these brows on the forehead, angling them upward. Ensure that the right and left brows don’t overlap, adding an expressive element to the Grinch charcuterie board.

Hat

Adding a Santa hat is a delightful addition to your Grinch charcuterie board. Gather a generous handful or two of strawberries or raspberries and arrange them in a semi-circle above the upper cauliflower trim. Position red bell pepper slices alongside the berries, creating the illusion of a Santa hat flipped over. For the finishing touch, use a round piece of cheese or a cauliflower floret as the pom-pom, placing it at the bottom of the red bell pepper slices.

Santa Suit

If you would like an extra festive Grinch charcuterie board, use additional red fruits and vegetables beneath the lower cauliflower trim to create the illusion of a Santa suit. Cherry tomatoes and pomegranate seeds work well for this.

Board Decor

Time to unleash your creativity! Consider filling the remaining space on your charcuterie board or decorative plate with an array of delights. This could be as simple as framing the Grinch with chips, pita, or crackers. Enhance the spread with additional fruits, veggies, meats, and cheeses. On my board, I crafted several Christmas tree shapes. For the tree toppers, I used cherry tomatoes, starfruit, persimmon, and a star-shaped cookie cutter. Anything cut into a triangular shape works well for the tree body, deli slices folded into fourths, or simply rosemary. To add a touch of elegance, include a charcuterie chain. For a flavorful touch, consider a small pitcher of agave or extra virgin olive oil. I recommend having fun and playing around with the ingredients you have on hand.

Alternatives for cilantro-serrano hummus

Consider alternative dips for your Grinch face, but be mindful of each option’s drawbacks.

  • Guacamole: While guacamole is a viable choice, there’s a risk of browning before consumption. Though safe to eat, your Grinch might look like he took a mud bath.
  • Green Cream Cheese: Blend cream cheese with cilantro or parsley, green pepper (spicy or mild), lime, and garlic. Ensure your chosen cream cheese is stable at room temperature; otherwise, your Grinch could melt. Work swiftly and refrigerate if not consumed immediately.
  • Experiment with Food Coloring: Using food coloring provides endless dip possibilities. Ensure the dip is firm to maintain the Grinch’s facial shape.
